Buying a used car is not an experience that I relish and too often I found garages that had the right car at the right price and in the right condition but where I didn't feel comfortable doing business for one reason or another - you can normally trust your instincts and know when a garage doesn't seem to want your business or conversely do but won't be there for you in the event of an issue developing. Cargo was not one of those places. Their reputation precedes them and what I'd heard in advance made me hopeful I'd be able to do business. Trust is the one crucial element in buying cars that is often missing but my experience with Rob at Cargo was entirely different. It was the first time that I felt I could shell out ?3,500 and be confident that he was being entirely genuine and helpful. Firstly, the pre-sale service was exemplary. He allowed me and my wife to take the car on an unsupervised test drive on a route representative of the kind of hills on which we'd be regularly using the car. We were able to inspect the car and look over it in peace without hassle or pressure selling and when we wanted to ask questions he was on hand with the info. He was also up-front about any existing issues with the car, which the in the case ours was a damaged bumper. When we committed to the sale he agreed that he would get it repaired. Having failed to repair the existing bumper to his own level of satisfaction he bore the cost of replacing it entirely, in addition to a full service and MOT. In addition to this the car came with a far more comprehensive 1 year warranty than any other garage had offered. With regards the pricing, there was no movement or negotiation but when Rob took the trouble to break it down for us, it was clear that the car was priced fairly with pre! tty slim margins, and I didn't begrudge him and I was happy that I was getting more than a fair price. When dealers negotiate, it's generally because they've deliberately inflated the screen price in the first place, purely to have a negotiating position or to fleece the people that don't ask for a discount. You won't get that here. However, the thing that really sets Cargo apart from other places was the assistance post-sale. Cars can be frustrating and fickle devices and Rob said that in the unlikely event of any issues, I could call him up and he'd look into it straight away. As it turned out, he was absolutely true to his word. The car was absolutely fine on the test drive and similarly on the way back to my house but on my very first commute to work the next day the car went into limp mode, throwing up several errors codes when I performed a self diagnostic check. I called Rob and without hesitation or quibbling he got a driver out the same day to pick my car up, dropped off a temporary replacement (a nicer car at that) and had my car into a garage for inspection and resolution. The issue was resolved within 2-3 days and the car returned when he was confident it was sorted. Everything has been fine since (roughly 1 month from purchase) and the car continues to be covered by a fairly comprehensive w! arranty. This is the kind of service that sets Cargo apart from other garages I've had experience with and would lead me to recommend this dealer to anyone looking to buy a used car.
